Do birds strongly prefer dry / drier seed? I have 2 feeders outside my

window. It was just the 1, but then I noticed I was attracting a lot of blue jays, and they were too big to properly perch on the first feeder. So I bought a basket feeder. It's sitting right next to the original.

The birds all have discovered that alternative, but I've noticed that after the seed gets wet in that basket feeder, they almost all go for the dispenser type. Even the blue jays who have a hell of a time trying to stay on the dispenser. The basket seed still gets eaten, but much more slowly.

Heck, even the chipmunks and occasional squirrel go for the dispenser more often.
